FAQs

What do I need to obtain an appointment?

  1. Weakness of one side of your face which has been diagnosed to be due to the facial nerve

  2. Private health insurance

  3. A referral from a medical doctor

Do I need a referral?

Yes. You will need to have consulted a medical doctor and have a referral from either your GP or if you have been to an Emergency Department, your discharge summary with a diagnosis. This is to ensure you have a diagnosis for your facial nerve condition/injury. Please also include the length of time of your symptoms.

Where do I send the referral?

Please email the referral to info@dreileentangore.com.au.

Our phone number should you need to contact the clinic is 02 4965 5411  option 8.

What happens once my referral is sent?

Your referral will be assessed by the Newcastle Facial Nerve Clinic team. Our secretary will phone you for an appointment and discuss with you which relevant clinician(s) you are advised to see and the service fee of your initial appointment. This will also be either emailed or posted to you. You will generally see 1-2 clinicians initially. If you require referral to other clinicians within the clinic, this will be done internally and discussed with you beforehand.

Are there any rebates for the appointment(s)?

If you have Private Health Extras, this will generally provide a rebate to see the Physiotherapist and Speech Pathologist. If you are unsure, it is advisable to check your policy.

You may be eligible for a Medicare Chronic Disease Management Plan from your GP to see a Physiotherapist and Speech Pathologist. You can discuss this with your GP.

What should I expect on my first appointment?

The initial appointment is directed at assessment, goal setting, and education combined with either rehabilitation treatment or recommendations for management.
